WHAT IS THE IELTS TEST?

IELTS stands for International English Language Testing System and it is the most popular and sought after English test in the world. An IELTS band score of 6.5 is considered a benchmark, and a requirement for many employers and universities across the globe as proof that you have reached a functional and effective level of English proficiency. You can find official IELTS test centres in most countries.

There are 4 parts to the IELTS test:

1. Speaking - a face to face conversation with an examiner lasting up to 15 minutes.

2. Listening - a 30 minute audio recording with 40 questions to answer.

3 Reading - 3 texts with a total of 40 questions to answer. The IELTS reading test lasts for 1 hour and has different papers for academic and general training.

4. Writing - The writing test lasts for 1 hour and is separated into task 1 and task 2. Task 1 is a letter for the general training exam, and a summary of a graph, table, map or diagram in the academic test. Task 2 is an opinion essay.
